If it’s unique experience you want, then you should try the Kawa Hot Bath in Tibiao, Antique. Yes, it looks like you’ve been cooked alive in this giant vat but really, this is nothing but a soothing hot bath that will surely relax your body after exploring the majestic Bugtong Bato falls.
The giant vat or kawa, in the local language, was designed to cook muscovado sugar. With the arrival of sugar centrals in Western Visayas, these kawas were put aside until someone in Tibiao converted them into these chill tubs.
Made of thick cast iron, the vat does not easily get hot so even when fire is already set under it, you really don’t need to worry about getting cooked. Besides, the fuel used for fire is nothing but dried coconut leaves. It dies down after a few minutes. If you think the water temperature is already turning you into a broth, just turn on the water faucet beside the bath. Cold water will immediately neutralize the hot water.
