Just this morning, Flord Calawag and his team “rediscovered” a Monggo-ao Cave with underground mini falls and underground river in one of the towns in Northern Antique.
“Monggo” is a kinaray-a term for a monkey. The said cave is believed to be a hiding place of the monkeys before. Currently, it is a home of thousands of Pygmy Round-leaf Bat (Hipposideros pygmaeus). According to him, “DENR has to assess the cave first. Once it is evaluated as suited for caving, the members of the community-based eco-tourism organization have to undergo an intensive cave guide training.” After his meeting with the mayor and tourism officer this afternoon, they committed to support the decision of the concerned authorities.
